Why Foam Works in Middle Georgia
Spray foam insulation expands to fill the cavity it is sprayed into, sealing air leaks and insulating at once. In Macon, where summer humidity runs high for months, keeping outside air out of attics, walls and crawl spaces matters as much as R-value. Humid air that leaks in brings moisture and heat with it.
Closed-cell foam
Closed-cell foam is dense and rigid, about R-5 to R-7 per inch according to HomeGuide, and at enough thickness it slows water vapor. We use it under crawl space floors, on rim joists and in tight cavities where R-value per inch matters. HomeGuide lists it at $3.00 to $5.00 per square foot installed.
Open-cell foam
Open-cell foam is soft and expands a lot, about R-3.5 to R-3.7 per inch, and costs about $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot. It is the usual choice on the underside of the roof deck when ducts and the air handler sit in the attic, because it brings them into the conditioned space. The Department of Energy advises against open-cell foam below ground.
Where foam fits in Macon homes
- Attics with ductwork. Roofline foam keeps the equipment out of the hottest air.
- Crawl space floors. Closed-cell foam under the subfloor of homes on piers or with vented crawl spaces.
- Bonus rooms and kneewalls. Foam fills the slopes and kneewalls that batts never fit well.
- Rim joists. Closed-cell foam seals the band joist where the house meets the foundation.
- Additions and remodels. Foam in open stud bays.
Termites and inspections
Macon-Bibb rates termite risk as very heavy. Foam on foundation walls can hide termite activity, so we discuss inspection gaps and coordinate with your pest control company. We also explain what foam on the roof deck means for future home inspections, since it hides the sheathing. Get a free estimate

How It Works
1. Inspection
We measure the spaces and check for leaks, moisture, termite signs and wiring issues.
2. Written quote
Foam type, thickness, R-value and price for each area, with alternatives where useful.
3. Prep
Floors, belongings and equipment covered, work area masked and ventilated.
4. Spray
Foam goes on in the passes the maker specifies, checked for thickness.
5. Cure and walk-through
The space airs out for the re-entry time, then we clean up and review the work with you.

Spray Foam Insulation Questions
Is spray foam worth it in Georgia's climate?
Where heat and humid air leaking in are the main problems, often yes, especially for attics with ductwork. On a simple attic floor, sealing plus blown-in usually gives similar comfort for less.
Can foam go over old insulation?
Not usually. Foam must bond to wood or concrete, so old batts in the way come out first.
Will foam affect my termite bond?
It can if it hides areas your pest company needs to inspect. Talk to them before foam goes on foundation walls, and we will plan inspection access.
How long does spray foam last?
Installed correctly and kept dry, it lasts for the life of the framing it is attached to.
